Senior DevOps Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Be a key member of a growing Platform Services team
  • Learn and master our managed services environment
  • Operations and maintenance tasks such as: OS level patching, Application updates, SIEM log review and maintenance
  • Scanning and monitoring of system health
  • Infrastructure/PaaS Deployment
  • Systems troubleshooting
  • Continuous learning of new trends and technologies
 

Basic Qualifications

  • US Citizen and able to obtain a US security clearance
  • 5+ years of work experience as a systems engineer 
  • Ability to contribute in each of the areas mentioned below
 

Desired Experience

Cloud Infrastructure and Services:

  • Extensive experience with AWS, including but not limited to: VPCs, Subnets, Route Tables, EC2, Load Balancers, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, and EKS.
  • Proficiency in building, maintaining, and optimizing cloud-based infrastructure for scalability and resilience.
 

Operating Systems:

  • In-depth knowledge of managing Linux and Windows operating systems, with a strong emphasis on:
    • For Windows:
      • Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
      • PowerShell scripting for automation and administrative tasks.
    • For Linux:
      • Command Line Interface (CLI) proficiency for administrative tasks.
      • System troubleshooting, log review, and application tuning.
      • Bash scripting expertise, with Python scripting as a significant plus.

DevOps Practices and Tools:

  • Hands-on experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. GitLab CI/CD experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code and automation tools, including Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with version control using Git and experience with code repositories.

Scripting:

  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Bash, PowerShell, Python, etc.) for automation and task development.

Security and Identity Management:

  • Experience with deploying and managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions such as SailPoint, CyberArk, Ping, etc.

Containers and Orchestration:

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes container management and operation of clusters in AWS EKS.
  • Understanding of containerized environments and microservices architecture.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Competency in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and identifying as well as addressing gaps within an environment.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and log analysis, familiarity with ElasticSearch or OpenSearch, and Kibana is a plus.

Networking and Architecture:

  • Basic understanding of networking principles, virtual machines, and cloud-based architecture.

Collaboration and Mentorship:

  • A strong work ethic, ability to work well within a team environment, and enthusiasm for learning.
  • Comfortable serving as a knowledge resource to less experienced engineers, with a willingness to assist, guide, and mentor.

  • An enthusiasm to learn and a passion for building innovative and impactful solutions.
 

Location

This role is offered as a fully remote or hybrid position based out of our Sterling, VA office.
